Nickel Refinery — Multi-Project Works

Project Overview

FMR's scope at this facility has included structural fabrication and erection, building refurbishments, and ongoing maintenance across multiple buildings and structures. All works were executed in strict accordance with — and often exceeding — the rigorous safety standards of both the refinery operator and FMR.

Engineering Building — Delivered a full roof and wall cladding replacement to a live facility housing project management, senior engineers and an operational workshop. The works required detailed staging and close coordination with internal personnel to ensure uninterrupted business operations.

Packaging Building — Completed a full cladding and structural refurbishment to one of the plant's most critical operational buildings, through which all final product is processed. Undertaken during winter, the project required extensive coordination to prevent disruption to operations, with consistent rainfall adding complexity. All challenges were effectively managed, delivering a high-quality, safe outcome.

Old Amsul Shed — Performed asbestos removal and installed vinyl ester–coated fibreglass cladding to a 40-degree roof pitch, with all works undertaken from boom and scissor lifts. The shed stored toxic plant residue, requiring enhanced PPE including full asbestos removal attire, Adflo respirators and gas monitoring equipment. Despite significant environmental and safety challenges, the project was completed to strict compliance standards.

Medical and Security Centre — Executed a full roof replacement, including installation of new structure to increase roof pitch and eliminate persistent leaks. The 24-hour security office required continuous occupation, necessitating careful coordination to ensure personnel safety at all times while works were carried out overhead.

Additional Works — Fabrication, erection and cladding of multiple site structures including a compressor shed and changeroom addition, refurbishment of toilet blocks, and ongoing cladding maintenance works such as rescrewing programs and custom flashing design and installation.
